stanzas & stories
Stanzas & Stories is our open mic series. Most people think of (and often refer to) open mics as “poetry night.” At De Alma Literary, we recognize that not everyone is a poet. Writing is not limited to poetry, although many of our attendees lean into poetry either primarily or solely. At Stanzas & Stories, we encourage writers of other forms to attend and share with us the beauty of prose. We encourage our readers to come prepared with two selections to present. To ensure that all of our readers have the opportunity to present, we ask that selections be no more than five minutes in length. Sign-ups are free. Readers can sign up at the event or can pre-sign here.

Pens & Pours
Pens & Pours is the mini writing event that we host. Everyone is familiar with open mics as an opportunity for writers share what they have written. All writers create in their own space, on their time, with their own inspirations. Not as popular is an opportunity to sit with other writers and create in the same space. With Pens & Pours, writers come together with the focus on doing that. We use prompts, shared themes, and inspirations drawn from the space to create and then share our interpretations in our own voices and styles. This provides not only the opportunity to create in the shared space, but also the opportunity to be inspired by fellow writers in a kinetic environment that stretches our creative muscles in a different way. Locations for Pens & Pours vary, so follow our social media pages for announcements
Stanzas On The Square
Stanzas On The Square loosely combines an open mic and a writing meetup. Stanzas On The Square is meant to expose what we do as writers to the community as a whole. Writers gather (typically in Hutchinson Square, Downtown Summerville) to create and then share with the group and with bystanders our souls through writing. Exposing the community to this art form is important for the growth and support of our writing community. Equally important is showing writers who are more hesitant to share, or even create, that there is a community that provides an open and safe environment to be vulnerable and to be yourself. In creating and sharing in a space that is out in the open, we show everyone in listening distance that our writing community is thriving and is welcoming with open arms.
